4/1/12 – Fickle people do not make faithful followers
Fickle people are marked by erratic change in their attraction and affection. Fickle people love you or hate you depending upon if you are performing satisfactory and meeting their expectations and wants. The crowd that welcomed Jesus as He entered the city of Jerusalem on that first Palm Sunday was a fickle crowd. The people who had lined the streets were there for a variety of reasons, some were vendors, some were simply there for the party, some to see another miracle of Jesus, and others out of political reasons. Those same ones who cheered Jesus that day were the same ones who, just a few days later, cried out for His crucifixion. They were fickle people who based their like of Jesus upon what they wished or desired instead of what God desired. He did not come for commercialism; He did not come to entertain. His mission was not to give His followers health and wealth or to fit into their political agenda. He came to establish the kingdom of God in the hearts of people here on earth.

3/25/12 – The gifts of the Spirit
There is much discussion today regarding the gifts of the Spirit. Some believe they are for today, while others believe they passed away with the apostles. What does the Bible say? The word of God should always be the final say if we are genuinely seeking the truth. People may say one thing, but the Lord’s words are the right thing. I believe the gifts of the spirit are definitely for the church today. We would be a powerless people if the gifts were not in operation. There are different kinds of gifts given by God, but they all operate and function by the same Spirit. He desires to manifest His gifts through each person who is willing. The gifts of the Holy Spirit are not based on age, sex, or race. The Lord chooses whom He will. When the gifts of the Spirit operate and function properly within the church, the whole body is edified. It profits and blesses everyone. These gifts of God are always to be a sign pointing others to Jesus Christ. They are never to be used to draw attention to ourselves or our ministry. Let us press on in faith and confidence in order to know the power of the Spirit in our lives. May we have a greater hunger for all that He has for us. Let us be open to the Holy Spirit’s distributing of His gifts among us according to His perfect will.

3/18/12 – The Holy Spirit – our helper (part 2)
The Holy Spirit is our loving helper sent by Jesus after He returned to heaven. He is one who desires to be a part of our lives in all circumstances and situations we may face in this life and journey. He is a loving and caring individual who wants what is best for us. He is always faithful and always available to us. He is our wise helper who gives to us discernment and wisdom when we need it the most. He desires to be actively involved in our lives. Nothing in this life or in eternity can separate us from His love and care except for our personal choice. Are we opening ourselves up to His loving care and concern? Life is much better and fuller when He is given freedom to lead, guide, and be in control of our lives. May we open ourselves up to a greater outpouring of God’s helper.

3/4/12 – The Holy Spirit – our helper
As I consider the gospels and the times of Christ, I can only imagine how many times the disciples would run to Jesus to tell Him of their troubles and concerns. I would imagine that they would come to Him as children do to their parents. They knew that it was He who would help them in their time of need. Sadly though, those days come to an end for the disciples. His time on earth had come to an end and now He was about to ascend into heaven. No longer would they be able to see Him face to face and bring their petitions to Him. No longer could they rest their weary heads on His shoulder and be comforted by Him. He was gone, but they were not alone! Jesus sent to them a helper, counselor, and friend known as the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit was sent to fill the gap that Jesus had left in the disciples’ lives. He would instruct and lead just as Jesus did while here on earth. This Holy Spirit would reveal God’s love to mankind until the return of Jesus. God the father sent the Son out of love and Jesus Christ sent His Holy Spirit out of love. May we open ourselves up to His influence and care in our lives. May we allow Him to work and minister in our lives.

2/26/12 – What is Lent?
There are many in the Evangelical church who have no idea of the meaning or significance of the Lent season. I believe that a lot of the reason behind this is that it has always been associated with other denominations and beliefs which are far more inclined toward liturgical worship. Sadly, the baby has been thrown out with the bath water on this topic and tradition. I know for myself and for many others not familiar with this time of year on the church calendar, we have wondered what the ash crosses on our fellow friends and neighbors means. It is a mystery as to why someone would have this on their forehead. Ash Wednesday and the time following through to Easter Sunday has great meaning and purpose behind it. It is a preparatory time for the coming of the greatest event in the history of the world – the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Lent is a time of remembrance of God’s great grace and love shown to us. It is a time of reflection and examination of where we stand in our Christian faith. Are there things in our lives that need to be changed? Lent is a time of soul searching and review. During this time, many choose to fast from certain things. Many, during this time, put a greater emphasis on prayer; it is also a time of generosity to others who have greater needs than us. Lent is an opportunity for renewal and restoration in our lives. Lent is a time for us to express joy and gratitude to God for what He brought about on the cross of Calvary.
