Can you imagine walking around in circles in the hot and dry desert for 40 years? This is exactly what the Israelites did. They were content to live in those circumstances rather than seek the change necessary for them to experience the greater things God had in store for them. They chose to accept their lot in life and said, in their hearts and actions, that they would never reach the promise and blessing God had for them. They felt they would wander forever in that desolate land. Because of that mindset, they lived lives of mediocrity, complaining, and complacency. Sadly, many today live and think just as the children of Israel did. They are reluctant and unwilling to change the direction and course of their lives. God has thought long and hard and caringly about how He wants to use us and bless and guide us to abundant and fulfilled lives. We must make the choice to turn in the right direction and begin the new journey God has in store for us. May we claim and possess the blessings and hope that is ours in Christ Jesus!

In the classic novel Alice in Wonderland, Alice comes to a fork in the road. One path leads one way and one path leads the other. At this point, she asks the Cheshire Cat for advice. “Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go?” The cat replies, “That depends a great deal on where you wish to end up.” Alice replies, “I don’t much care where.” The cat wisely replies, “Then it doesn’t matter which way you go.” There are many people in our world today just like Alice. They don’t have any idea nor do they give much thought to where they are going or where they will end up. They just drift through life aimlessly. They get up each day and begin to walk, but when they come to forks in the path, they don’t give much thought to what ultimate goal and direction they wish to pursue. So many people are confused and troubled over what their purpose in life is. Life feels like a merry-go-round, lots of activity but never getting anywhere. May each of us understand, somebody or something will decide for each of us what path in life we will take. If it isn’t God, then another influence will take us another direction. We must allow God to be God in our lives. When we come to crossroads in our lives, God is there to help us choose the better path. If we are going to reach the destination God has for us, we must keep proper focus on the proper things.

7/10/11 – Life is short, choose wisely.

No one really believes they are going to live forever in their physical body, but yet we choose to not think about dying or the real fact that our physical lives are just temporary. We may not like it, but life on this earth is just a temporary assignment. Sadly, far too many push mortality and death our of the way and refuse to consider it until they are forced to. Often this comes through serious illness or an accident that bring a wake up call. Many others are not given a final choice to consider their mortality because their lives are ended abruptly and suddenly without warning. Each day all of us make decisions and plans with the idea in our minds that we are going to be around to see them through. We don’t give it a second thought that we might not be around to actually see those things come to fruition. Tomorrow may never come for many! May each of us recognize and appreciate the reality and truth that we were not created to live on this earth forever. As believers, we are to be aliens in this land. There is much more to life than just the few years we are allowed to live on this planet called Earth. Our real identity is in eternity and our homeland is in Heaven. When we allow ourselves to get comfortable with this world and its values, when we neglect the fact that there is another life to come, it is very easy to get off track and begin to journey down the wrong road. It becomes very easy to forget to include God in our plans and endeavors. Life is but a breath, may we choose wisely.
