6/19/11 – The power of a Godly dad

I believe the toughest job in all the world is parenting; it is not for the faint of heart. As Dr. James Dobson says, “Parenting isn’t for cowards.” Children are a blessing from the Lord and, as with all great possessions, they take great care. Sadly, many dads in our modern day and age have chosen to father a child, but not be a father to their child. They have taken a great treasure and chosen to not take proper care of it. Due to prolonged exposure to sinful and immoral attitudes and behaviors, true manhood and true fatherhood has slowly deteriorated and disappeared in our modern society. Men are running away from their commitments and responsibility. They have reneged on the promises made to God, their wives, and their children. The effects of these actions is harming families and children in a very great way. A Godly dad is one who stands true to the commandments and ways of God. They are one who love and protect their wife and children, and serve them with a Christ-like love and commitment. They are one who lives out a good example and stands for what is right, true, and best for their family. Being a Godly dad is not easy, but so worth it in the end.

6/12/11 – The Promise of Pentecost

Jesus knew that His disciples could not handle their lives successfully without divine intervention and the help of a Godly counselor, helper, and partner. On the day of Pentecost, God poured out His Holy Spirit in a powerful and life-changing way! The church as we know it came into existence and those early followers of Christ were never the same again. Because of Pentecost, Christians have the gift of empowerment. Empowerment to be witnesses, empowerment to handle life’s experiences and situations in a way that honors God, empowerment to be renewed and transformed into the likeness of Christ. Pentecost is not a denomination, it is not a religious organization, Pentecost is a spiritual experience every child of God should desire and receive into their lives. Just as the early New Testament believers needed help to live proper lives, so we today need help and empowerment to live proper lives.

5/29/11 – A good soldier

On Memorial Day, all across America, people will gather at parks and cemeteries to honor this special day. Speeches will be presented, prayers will be said, flowers and flags will be placed on grave-sites, Taps will be played, and salutes will be given. This is our way of saying thanks and remembering and honoring those who have died and have given of themselves so that our lives may be better. This is a very good thing, because we ought to honor those heroes of the past and remember that their lives were sacrificed for our freedoms. Thank God for all the good soldiers who fought for you and I, both in the physical and spiritual realm of our lives. Thank God for all those willing to pay the price and live out a shining example to you and I. As we remember them and recognize their contributions in our lives, may we be challenged and encouraged to fight the good fight and also be known as a good soldier. May we pursue the characteristics of a worthy and faithful soldier.
