4/25/10 – Sermon Series: The Jewish Feasts – “The Feast of Weeks” Pentecost
The Feast of Weeks is always celebrated on the 50th day after passover. The feast of weeks was the day on which the first fruit offerings of the summer wheat crop were brought into the temple to be offer unto God. On the day of this feast, people from every tribe and nation gathered in the city of Jerusalem to celebrate and worship together. This feast was a symbolic festival that pointed to the coming of Christ’s Holy Spirit and the birthday of the new testament church.
According to the scriptures, Jesus spent forty days in a post-resurrection ministry. After that time, He told His followers that He must leave and return to the Father. He also told them that He was gong to send to them a helper and comforter; one who would come alongside them in His absence. They were then informed to go to Jerusalem and await this promised one. The disciples waitedas they had been told and exactly ten days later, on the day of Pentecost, the Spirit of God descended upon those first century believers! Thousands were ministered to and saved on that day! This gift and outpouring was for all mankind and not just for those present on that day. This empowerment gives you and I the ability and strength to live out our christian faith in a great and glorious way and to be witnesses to all the world. With the Holy Spirit’s help, we are conformed into the likeness of Christ our Savior.

4/18/10 – Sermon Series: The Jewish Feasts – “The Feast of First Fruits”
The feast of first fruits was a time for the Israelites to acknowledge the blessings of their crops and God’s provision. This feast took place at the very beginning of the barley season. The first sheaths of barley were picked and brought to the temple to be offered by the priest unto God. This was a symbolic act that the entire harvest, yet to be brought, belonged to God and was provided by Him.
The feast of first fruits can be considered the most important feast of all for the new testament church. This old testament feast was prophetic of the coming of Christ and His death and resurrection. It had been prophesied many years before that Jesus would arise from the tomb three days after His death. The feast of first fruits took place exactly three days after Jesus’ crucifixion. Just as the prophecies had foretold, Jesus arose on that very day! Jesus was the first fruits offered by God to mankind. His resurrection gives each of us hope for a future resurrection and a promised eternal life. Jesus was the first of the great harvest of millions who would also conquer sin and death.

4/11/10 – Sermon Series: The Jewish Feasts – “The Feast of Unleavened Bread”
The passover feast and meal was only the beginning of a week-long event known as the celebration of unleavened bread. The passover recognized the freedom God wanted and desired for His people. The rest of the week was then focused on the fact that God’s freedom required His people to examine their lives and homes and remove any leaven which might be present. Leaven, or yeast, was used by God to symbolize the power of sin. For seven days there was to be no leaven of any kind in the homes of the Jewish people. They were to search out any and all traces of it. It was to be a time of evaluation and soul searching to see if there was any type of sin that needed to be removed and destroyed in their lives.
This is what God is calling us to do in our lives yet today. We need to regularly examine ourselves and our homes and see if there is any leaven (sin) that may need to be removed and destroyed. We must be vigilant in this area of our lives as “a little yeast works through the whole dough” 1 Corinthians 5:6. If we wish to become more like Jesus and experience the things he desires for us, we must be set apart from sin and strive to be holy as He is holy.

4/4/10 – Because He Lives
On that first Easter morning, the stone was rolled away and sin and death were conquered once and for all! The chief priests and the pharisees thought they had stopped God’s plan. They tried to seal up Christ in an earthly tomb. But they were shown as well as the rest of the world, it could not be done! Their efforts and hopes were futile and useless. The message of Easter is that no soldiers, stones, or Satan himself could stop the plan and purpose of God. Jesus Christ is alive and the tomb is empty! Because of that fact, we have hope for today and all eternity.

3/21/10 – New Sermon Series: The Jewish Feasts – “The Feast of Pentecost”
Festivals, better known as feasts, are regular religious celebrations recognized throughout the year by the Jewish people. These feasts are a part of the Mosaic law given to the children of Israel by God through Moses. The term “feasts” in the original Hebrew language literally means: appointed times. Each of these 7 feasts are prophetic in nature and reveal God’s divine plan from beginning to end.
This first feast of Passover remembers the deliverance of the Israelites from Egyptian bondage. It also is the time in which Jesus shared the meal with his disciples shortly before His crucifixion. It was at that time in which the symbolic meaning of this feast came to represent the redemptive work of Christ on the cross. This was the greatest passover ever and each of us are offered the gift of salvation and eternal life through it. The Passover feast and story is not only a legacy to the Jewish people, it is a legacy to Christians as well.
