8/2/09 – Life as a Sheep is Better Than That of a Lion
The 23rd psalm is one of the best known passages of scripture in the Bible. The author David did what every good writer does, he wrote about that which he knew best. “Shepherding over sheep.”
He was intimately acquainted with it since his youth. He masterfully joins his writings with his life experiences and pens some of the most comforting words of hope ever written. From this powerful and moving passage, we see that the life of a sheep is much better than that of a lion. In our human minds this seems ridiculous, but it is true! The reason being, sheep have something a lion does not. A shepherd who cares and watches over them. As long as the sheep trust and follow their shepherd, they will be well cared for and protected from harm. We live in a day where many desire to live as a lion, but may we understand that living as a sheep under the care of the heavenly Shepherd brings much greater security and peace into our lives.
